The State Board of Veterans Affairs is composed of 16 members, comprised of the Governor and nominated and selected members of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Marine Corps League, Military Officers Association of America, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Military Officers Association of America, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Vietnam Veterans of America.

The Governor, who serves the Board’s chair, appoints members. Board members’ terms are four years, with the option of one renewal. From its membership, the Board elects a vice chairman and deputy vice chairman.
